Social Media Lead
The OneHome initiative was founded in 2015 by the fourth year Global Business and Digital Arts students at the University of Waterloo as their final year project. OneHome was entered into the P2P Competition issued by the U.S. Department of State.
OneHome is an initiative working to provide relief to Syrian refugees affected by violent extremism. All donations to OneHome offer improved accommodations through the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to those in need in Syria and surrounding countries. As a token of gratitude, donors will receive a bracelet from Hekaia, an NGO specializing in handmade items, made by Syrian women relocated in Turkey. Collected funds will be provided to Hekaia and the Syrian refugees in need through the IRC. With the assistance of the IRC, OneHome provides fundamental needs such as cots, clean water, food, healthcare, and other forms of aid.
My role as the Social Media Lead was to create and maintain the social media pages and provide relevant and interesting information to our followers. We had a following on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. On a daily basis, I would find and schedule related articles, videos, and images, write copy to go along with the posts, and post them to our social media platforms. In addition, I would market our events to the University and invite students to participate in our fund-raising activities, such our our Button Making Event and Gingerbread House Event.
Our Twitter account was followed by Mayor Dan Mathieson (Stratford), received a mention from the official University of Waterloo Twitter account, and was retweeted by several other influential individuals. OneHome partnered with the IRC, Hekaia, Shamrose for Syrian Culture, Menchies KW, SoupSurreal, Quesada Burritos, Risa Bags, Expressions Hair Design, Complexions Clothing, Pearl Sushi, Runner's Wall, and Handi Quilter.
